River of Heroes Flames of warI had a chance to play some of the river of heroes campaign and have found it quite enjoyable. The Soviets have a lot of great new additions in this campaign such as sappers and flame tanks to lead the assault. This follows up on hammer and sickle as the Soviets make their push towards the heart of Germany.

Posted in News on October 2nd, 2009 by Vastatum – Be the first to comment

flames of war 25 pounder britishThere have been a few artillery re releases in the last couple of waves. Artillery is one of those essential pieces in many armies so it makes sense that they are ones to receive an update. Both the Royal Artillery 25 pounders and the German 10.5 cm artillery pieces have had a face lift. Each of these re releases comes with a new staff team which I must admit look very nice.

This is quite possibly the coolest army transport case I’ve seen in awhile. Who wouldn’t want to carry their Flames of War army around in an ammo box?

Posted in News on April 2nd, 2009 by Vastatum – Be the first to comment

The first addon mission for Hammer and Sickle has been released and you can grab it here. The Thing I really like about Flames of War is that they are constantly putting out new scenarios to play even after the main books have been released. This looks like a fun mission. I can’t wait to try it out.

New Releases March 28

Posted in News on March 19th, 2009 by Vastatum – Be the first to comment

There are some new releases out now for flames of war. Zac over at tabletop gaming news got the lowdown on the new units. The first is the German mortar platoon for the late war period they use the 8cm Granatwerfer 34 Mortar. Sure to put a dent in any opponent.  Next up we have the Pak 40 auf RSO tank hunters with awesome firepower, sure to take out the soviet T-34’s with ease.

On the soviet side we see the IS-2. This is one beast of a tank, there is very little that will be able to hurt this guy. That’s not all because the t-34 85mm is also available. You can now punch nice 85mm holes in the german panzer IV’s with ease. The Soviets also have a new sapper platoon which gives them serious de-mining and anti fortification abilities in addition to their fearsome Molotov and improvised explosives.

These releases should make all the Eastern front late war players really happy. I know I’ll be adding the soviet tanks to my collection.
