Flames Of War Command

The Sturmtiger in Flames of War is a fearsome weapon mounted on a tiger chassis. Imagine dropping a house packed with explosives on an enemy and you’ll start coming close to the destructive power of this unit.

This weapon fires bombardments but it only gets 1 chance to range in on the enemy. Should you hit though any infantry or unarmoured vehicles caught in the blast is killed outright on a 5+ with no chance to save. If a tank is unlucky enough to be caught there it is hit with an AT6 hit to its top armour.

You can field these bad boys in the River of Heroes Handbook which is a follow up to Hammer and Sickle.

The Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer
is a specialized tank. It is only available to Hammer and Sickle  veteran tank hunters platoon but if you are playing the list it is a nice addition. Being veterans they get access to the abilities “shoot and scoot” and “manuvre and fire”.

Their stats are decent too.

Fully-tracked with Armour Front 7, Side 2, Top 1. It is armed with Hull MG and 7.5cm PaK39 gun. The 7.5cm PaK39 gun has a range of 32”/80cm, ROF 2, Anti-tank 11 and Firepower 3+.

The only downside is they are overloaded.

Since the Soviets just got a new heavy tank list the germans were bound to get a model to help deal with that threat. The Pak43 is that answer. Able to penetrate any armour this anti tank gun is what you want if you’re going to be running up against very heavy armour.

This gun has an AT rating of 16. Yes that isn’t a typo 16. This is enough to make even an IS-2 commander think twice. If you’re running a late war german force that sees a lot of enemy heavy tanks, pick this unit up. Its a monster.

The April 27th releases for flames of war include the Soviet Assult Gun Company. These guys have decent AP but their strength lies in their firepower. at 2+ they pretty much guarantee they will kill anything dug into bulletproof cover. They are also going to force bailouts more often making them effective against medium tanks. The ISU-122’s are a great addition If you are running a late war Soviet force consider adding these guys in for some massive support.

There is an intelligence briefing out that covers the German Pioneer Kompanie. If you want to play a late war engineer based force that can easily dig in when the going gets tough then this is a force you should definitely consider. It is essentially an infantry company but it replaces the standard infantry with pioneer squads.

The British have fantastic artillery. They can use their 8 gun rule to completely destroy enemy positions and force any opponent to be wary about digging in for an extended period of time. With these guns as a backbone, this Afrika infantry list is tough as nails.

The Soviet Strelkovy are the typical swarm army of Flames of War. Cheap to field, Easy to kill with some devastating weapons, if they hit. When playing a Strelkovy army you expect a good number of your troops to be killed before you even engage the enemy. The good thing is you have so many troops that your strategy revolves around screening with infantry, hoping to keep your weapons moving up behind protected. This is a Mid War Ostfront Strelkovy army and is a great place to start if you are interested in an infantry force. read more »

The Panzerkompanie has the toughest and hardest hitting tanks in the game. The Panther tank is a devastatingly powerful piece of armour. This list is a 1943 Panzer Platoon built to punch giant holes in your opponent. This is a 1750 point list as it is difficult to play a game with panther tanks and have any other units on the table if you play with fewer points. read more »

The Sherman tank is the backbone of the American tank company in Flames of War. It is a jack of all trades tank with decent armour, a decent main gun and lots of machine guns. This last point makes it just as versatile engaging infantry as it is at taking out enemy armour. This is a sample 1500 point army list from Afrika for the mid war period. read more »
