While no match for the German Panzer IV, the soviets overcame this with sheer numbers despite their poor training. paratroopersLets face it, nothing says Americans more than a bunch of guys with bazookas jumping out of an airplane yelling “Whoo Raahh” as they go. This list will get you started on the path to a force where kicking ass and taking names is a day to day thing. Rated Fearless Veteran, the paratroopers are extremely hard to hit but don’t have as much heavy support as a regular infantry platoon, they do jump out of planes after all. read more »

flames of war motociclistiThe Italian motorcycle platoons (Motociclisti) were legendary during the war.  Compared to the Bersaglieri they must take motorcycles. This gives them a lot of mobility and increases the platoon sizes by one for most units. They are also considered elite units which makes them very hardy in battle. Great mobility, hard to break, lots of weapons, the motociclisti are a very fun company to play. If you have a Bersaglieri company and want to try out the Motociclisti this is a good place to start. read more »

This is a starting 600 point Afrika Korps list for the British Infantry. It takes a little bit of everything and is able to deal with very heavy armour as well as entrenched enemies. It is a list designed to give you models that you will use, to give you a feel for the game and how your army will play. It is very easy to expand on this list into a full 1500+ point army without having any models go to waste. read more »

Matilda II Tanks

matilda II tank flames of warThe matilda II is a close infantry support tank capable of taking a decent amount of fire due to its high armour. It also has fairly thick side and top armour making it ideal for making assaults along side the infantry it is supporting. They are slow, but they don’t need to move faster than infantry. Like most units in Flames of War, use them right and they are a huge asset, use them wrong and they’re a huge waste of points. read more »

M3/M5 Stewart

m5 Stewart flames of warThe  Stewart is the light tank of the American forces. It is very fast but lightly armoured. By utilizing terrain and its mobility it can play a decisive role in supporting an assault, or racing to take out some of the enemies artillery. There is no way this tank will stand up to much anti tank firepower but when used in a fast strike role it can be invaluable. read more »

Static Anti Tank Guns

17/25 pdr gun flames of war

Every force in Flames of War has static anti tank guns available to it. They possess an enormous amount of anti tank firepower but are fixed in place unless you tow it with a vehicle, wasting a lot of time. Some are able to rotate to face any direction but many, once set up are limited to firing at arc in front of them. Highly effective yet vulnerable to flanking, it is essential to know how to use these properly so they don’t become a waste of points. read more »

Italian Infantry

The Italian infantry are a mixed group of soldiers. Part of the fun of using the Italians is that each platoon has a different skill rating determined randomly. This forces the italian commander to adapt strategy on the fly as one of the platoons may be exceptionally strong or incredibly weak. The Italians have a few other special rules that make them unique. read more »
