The Soviet war machine used tons of armour as it lumbered across europe. The mainstay of this was the T-34 tank. While no match for the German Panzer IV, the soviets overcame this with sheer numbers despite their poor training. When playing a soviet Tankovy company you’ll field a lot of tanks, and you’ll need them seeing as you are rated Fearless Conscript. read more »
Lets face it, nothing says Americans more than a bunch of guys with bazookas jumping out of an airplane yelling “Whoo Raahh” as they go. This list will get you started on the path to a force where kicking ass and taking names is a day to day thing. Rated Fearless Veteran, the paratroopers are extremely hard to hit but don’t have as much heavy support as a regular infantry platoon, they do jump out of planes after all.
The Italian motorcycle platoons (Motociclisti) were legendary during the war. Compared to the Bersaglieri they must take motorcycles. This gives them a lot of mobility and increases the platoon sizes by one for most units. They are also considered elite units which makes them very hardy in battle. Great mobility, hard to break, lots of weapons, the motociclisti are a very fun company to play. If you have a Bersaglieri company and want to try out the Motociclisti this is a good place to start.
The German army has some fearsome tanks. What better way to play flames of war than to have a whole company built around the mighty panzer. This list is a good starting list to get used to the game. It gives you a decent number of tanks to play with and a support option. This is using the Afrika korps book.
The matilda II is a close infantry support tank capable of taking a decent amount of fire due to its high armour. It also has fairly thick side and top armour making it ideal for making assaults along side the infantry it is supporting. They are slow, but they don’t need to move faster than infantry. Like most units in Flames of War, use them right and they are a huge asset, use them wrong and they’re a huge waste of points.
The Stewart is the light tank of the American forces. It is very fast but lightly armoured. By utilizing terrain and its mobility it can play a decisive role in supporting an assault, or racing to take out some of the enemies artillery. There is no way this tank will stand up to much anti tank firepower but when used in a fast strike role it can be invaluable.
