Flames Of War Command

The April 27th releases for flames of war include the Soviet Assult Gun Company. These guys have decent AP but their strength lies in their firepower. at 2+ they pretty much guarantee they will kill anything dug into bulletproof cover. They are also going to force bailouts more often making them effective against medium tanks. The ISU-122’s are a great addition If you are running a late war Soviet force consider adding these guys in for some massive support.

The Soviet Strelkovy are the typical swarm army of Flames of War. Cheap to field, Easy to kill with some devastating weapons, if they hit. When playing a Strelkovy army you expect a good number of your troops to be killed before you even engage the enemy. The good thing is you have so many troops that your strategy revolves around screening with infantry, hoping to keep your weapons moving up behind protected. The Soviet war machine used tons of armour as it lumbered across europe. The mainstay of this was the T-34 tank. While no match for the German Panzer IV, the soviets overcame this with sheer numbers despite their poor training. When playing a soviet Tankovy company you’ll field a lot of tanks, and you’ll need them seeing as you are rated Fearless Conscript. read more »

Soviet t-34 tanks are designed to swarm the enemy, though not particularly armoured they have decent weaponry and are quite cheap. They are the primary tank of the soviets and seeing a company of these will make even a panther tank think twice about engaging. read more »

During the early/mid war in Flames of War the Soviet infantry are conscripts and perform rather poorly in small numbers. They have been rushed into battle to fill in for their countrymen killed in combat. The Soviet infantry is numerous, but they need that mass to be effective. Their lack of training means they need to maximise their units in order to be able to kill anything. If you have enough people shooting you’re bound to hit something. This doesn’t mean they are useless though, quite the contrary.
