You're right I must have made a typo when making the list. The AA guns are portees. You're also right this is a rifle company list. The command HQ goes together in the rifle platoon so there are 2 rifle/MG sections with the command HQ section with a mortar and PIAT for support.

Hope that answers your questions.

Hi there,

I'm just starting out with Flames of War, and I was wondering about this starter army. I have the Afrika book and the 2.0 Rulebook but was trying to workout this list.

Is this based around a Rifle Company list?

Are the AA units meant to be Portee's?

Where does the Command HQ go? Is it ok to include it in the Rifle company?

This is really good advice I've tried this out and had a much more success against all types of opponents. The recon unit is invaluable and the mortars provide the smoke needed to take AT guns out of the fight. Great suggestion I've updated the post to reflect it.

Scrap the artillery, it adds little to the force. Recon for 50 points removes gone-to-ground fom those pesty dug-in infantry, armoured mortars <100 points gives you a smoke template to take out enemy anti-tank guns.

Artillery takes to long - the rest of the force is hard and fast - you cannot afford to slug it out with veteran infantry / at guns / tanks.
