Power of Flame Throwers
Flame throwers are devastating weapon. When used properly they are able to destroy anything within their range using a simple firepower test. There is nowhere to hide when you’re having ignited fuel sprayed at you out of a high pressure hose. Facing a flame thrower is scary business and as such, any platoon that is hit by one is instantly pinned. The key is getting into range to use them.
In Flames of War, flamers only get one round of shooting so it is essential to pick the right time to fire. From turn one you need to know what your plan is for the flame throwers and it is essential that you do not deviate from that plan. If you decide to send them after your opponents heavy armour, do that. If you want to use them to annihilate an opponents defensive line, do that. Changing your plan mid battle will result in these guys getting killed off before they can be effective more often than not.
You can use flame throwers on the defensive as well. They are especially good at ambushing tanks. A tank commander without recon is in for a serious pounding if you have flame throwers that can be deployed in an ambush. Positioning is the key to these units, good positioning will devastate your opponent, poor positioning will simply see these guys killed.
