Matilda II Tanks

matilda II tank flames of warThe matilda II is a close infantry support tank capable of taking a decent amount of fire due to its high armour. It also has fairly thick side and top armour making it ideal for making assaults along side the infantry it is supporting. They are slow, but they don’t need to move faster than infantry. Like most units in Flames of War, use them right and they are a huge asset, use them wrong and they’re a huge waste of points.

Mark II (Matilda II) (mid / late war)

This tank is cheap, with decent armour and an average main gun. It makes up for this with a higher rate of fire. if you need to engage a lot of moderately armoured targets . It can also stand up to fire far better than any assault gun platform. This tank fills a support role and moves with the infantry taking out halftracks and assault guns alike. With no HE they are not going to dig out machine gun nests but the british guns are more than up to that task. They also have a top armour of 2 which makes them very survivable when assaulting.

Mark II 76mm (Matilda II CS) (mid / late war)

This tank has a lower rate of fire and a lower anti tank value than the standard mark II but higher firepower. It doesn’t have HE rounds either so it wont be digging anyone out of cover, but what it does have is smoke rounds. These are very useful for blinding machinegun nests or at guns when your infantry is assaulting, freeing up your mortars to use their regular rounds.

Both of these tanks are good when used for the role they are designed in, supporting infantry, don’t expect to be doing any flanking maneuvers with them.
